Wood Chipper Package
Deviation in chip size directly disrupts chemical impregnation in pulp production. POP003 detects knife wear along with deviating and missing knives, putting the knife replacement interval on a measured footing.
POP003 is a process optimization package designed to monitor wood chipper knives. By detecting overall knife wear it enables condition-based maintenance instead of time-based maintenance. The solution also detects deviating and missing knives, preventing inconsistencies in chip size and thickness and resulting in higher-quality pulp.
The package includes a 4-channel Intellinova Parallel EN system, a DuoTech accelerometer, the necessary hardware and a Condmaster licence. Measurement and analysis run through the Condmaster.NET dashboard.
By monitoring knife wear, the time between knife replacements can be optimized, leading to significant cost savings for pulp mills. Keeping deviation in chip thickness minimal is crucial, since unevenly thick chips hinder the chemical impregnation process in pulp production.
Using algorithms from the patented HD Technologies, POP003 can detect synchronous signals from the knives and produce accurate measurements even when logs are randomly fed into the chipper — including scenarios with empty gaps or multiple logs processed simultaneously.
Desired cable lengths must be specified when ordering POP003. The Condmaster.NET dashboard is offered as a yearly subscription per wood chipper through part number CM-S103.
