Tan Delta OQSx-G2 Oil Analysis Sensor
Real-time oil condition analysis sensor
- Part number
- OQSx-G2
- Brand
- Tan Delta Systems

A sensor that continuously analyses the electrochemical properties of oil at a molecular level to an accuracy of 99.99%. It works with any oil type, equipment and application, instantly detecting all changes and reducing them to a single number (TDN).
Highlights
- Analysis at molecular level with 99.99% accuracy
- Any oil type, any equipment, any application
- A single-number result: the Tan Delta Number (TDN)
- Early detection through real-time analytics
- OQSx-G2 HAZ version certified for C1D2 and ATEX Zone 2
How it works
As equipment operates, the electrochemical properties of the oil in use change. These changes are due to a variety of factors that occur as the oil is used and ages. An unexpected degradation in oil quality can also be caused by contamination or accelerated wear, which reduces the oil's effectiveness and increases the risk of equipment damage.
The FSH core technology detects, characterises and delivers all and any of these changes instantly, irrespective of cause, as simple, actionable information.
The Tan Delta Number (TDN) scale
| TDN | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 1200 | Clean oil |
| 750 | Good condition |
| 500 | Monitor |
| 250 | Plan a change |
| 0 | Worn oil |
Benefits
- Extend oil use. Stop throwing away good oil with many hours of useful life remaining; the sensor tells you when oil is at the end of its working life.
- Reduce maintenance. Oil condition correlates with equipment health and maintenance status, enabling maintenance based on real need instead of fixed time-based schedules.
- Reduce breakdowns. Detect potential issues at an early stage and take preventative action before expensive damage occurs.
- Detect contamination. Instantly detect any contamination that would otherwise lead to substantial issues and costs.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Tan Delta Number (TDN) and how is it interpreted?
TDN is a scale that expresses oil condition as a single number between 0 and 1200, where 1200 is clean oil and 0 is fully worn oil. Because the sensor measures the oil's electrochemical properties continuously, the TDN value decreases over time; what matters is the rate of that decrease and any sudden drops. A gradual decline indicates normal ageing, while a sudden drop points to an event such as contamination or accelerated wear. Alarm thresholds are set per application.
