SPM Stroboscope
Non-contact speed measurement and slow-motion observation of fast movement
- Part number
- 18432
- Brand
- SPM Instrument

A portable stroboscope that measures the speed of rotating equipment without contact and makes fast, repetitive motion visible to the eye. Events invisible at full speed — belt slip, coupling looseness, fan blade damage, the behaviour of handled material — appear frozen once the flash rate is locked to the rotational speed.
Highlights
- 100 – 12,500 fpm in internal mode, 5.0 – 12,500 fpm in external mode
- 5 – 250,000 rpm in tachometer mode (no flash)
- Fractional RPM tuning with a one-touch joystick button
- 6-digit backlit LCD, 8 memory positions
- Up to 2 hours of continuous use on a rechargeable battery
Beyond its brightness and robust construction, the instrument stands out for its long battery life. A distinctive one-touch joystick-type button allows fast tuning down to fractional RPM: the four-quadrant pressure-sensitive button controls both the flash rate and the ×2 / ÷2 functions.
A large, backlit 6-digit alphanumeric LCD shows the flash rate and operating mode. It offers fine tuning in internal mode, an external TTL pulse input, a tachometer display and ×2 / ÷2 functions. Eight memory positions give rapid recall of user-defined frequencies, and the last flash rate is saved at power down.
When the flash rate is offset slightly from the rotational speed, the motion appears to run in slow motion — the technique most used in fault finding. According to the manufacturer's product page, the instrument also offers a phase-shift function in 5° increments.
The removable, rechargeable battery pack provides up to two hours of continuous use depending on the flash rate. It connects to the Leonova Diamond and Leonova Emerald handheld instruments with the CAB90 stroboscope cable.
